Re: Actually only having ring fights on tourney days?
My turn for the soapbox Back in the day I used to play Eve. I loved it for a while, until my old Alliance was attacked by 75% of the null-sec Alliances. Russians, BoB, Goonswarm, and we had no allies in the fight (Northern Alliance stayed out of the fighting). It was fun for about 2 weeks, then I ra...

Re: Blocking Arrows with Weapons
You know, I get hit with arrows all the time. 75% of the time I never realize it and that oh-so-kind Havoc tells me afterwards, which allows me to take a nice little breather. I agree the whole idea of facing off against an archer with 2 flat swords facing the archer being super cheesy. But if I am ...

Re: Replacement system for land map
I understand your concerns and can appreciate them. The only reason I have a job is because people do not write good code, build systems that fail, and buy products that do not work. That being said, I am not planning on making some god-awful monstrosity of Java code. The crux of the whole system wi...

Re: Replacement system for land map
Think about the concept of an "abstract system" in which your land holdings doesn't relate to a physically represented map. Land searches and wars happen, the just don't need to be tracked via coordinates. Kind of like playing dnd without the gridmap. " Can I reach the goblin ?"...

Re: Replacement system for land map
If I get into anything that is extremely specific, I'll be sure to let you know ahead of time. Right now, any work I do on it will be the basics, like a coffer transaction database or a table with a fake "land map" to represent hexes and the status of said hexes (who owns them, structures,...

Replacement system for land map
A while back there had been a discussion about replacing CC3 to keep track of the Darkon land map and country coffers. Back then, I had volunteered to start work on a replacement. As usual in the Darkon world, my replacement idea was shot down. But alas, I've been asked to start work on the replacem...

Re: Maelstrom
I would work in something about shields being insta- destroyed, but if that were the case the JoL would become less gnarly. I would keep the three spellballs if you made it so shields could block the "iceballs", or make the ice balls into "shield breaking" weapons IE you need to...

Are YOU apathetic to your surroundings?
Are YOU a fan of a leisurely mozy towards the fields of battle?
Do YOU like to sit in a comfortable chair while taking long breaks from fighting?

Re: Open Discussion - Order of the Sword ability?
If there is anything that I have learned from the few years that I have participated in Darkon (and other games).... Adding character abilities that can be used against other players makes classes OP. Then another class gets a new ability to counter the OP. So on and so forth, until every single pla...

Re: Proposal - Blockades
When I think of blockades, I think of the Total War style blockade, where you can block another country's port and "pirate" gold from that trade route. That being said, having the capability of blockading a sea route seems relevant and a useful map mechanism during war time. Seems overkill...

Re: Identifying those under 21 at overnight events
Anyone under the age of 21 attending an overnight darkon event, where alcohol is/will be present, is required to be identified by some means. If a person who is so identified is found to be consuming or has clearly consumed alcohol they are removed from the event, and the person who signed their wa...

He's right to come down on shorts, boots, and what looks like a modern shirt. It shows no effort is being made, and as long as we're going to be dressing up in funny clothes, making some basic effort is key. You will never see me wear "medieval" boots, because I value the use of my ankles...

Re: YOUR NEWBIES LOOK LIKE $HIT DARKON!!!!!
No problem Thrush, I should not have rushed to judgement myself. That picture was taken during the Jugging tournament, in which I took off all of my armor and padding for the fighting. So that picture is basically me in my medieval underwear, so to speak. Missing is the padded tunic (hand-sewn with ...

So what exactly is your problem with my garb in slide 8? A leftover pocket, that is normally not visible because of my tunic, showing up while I am lunging towards someone for a hit? I do not see you complaining about your buddies that show off their Under-Armor logos when they garb falls out of ali...

Re: Why does weight = armor?
Also, the weight will vary based on the size of the person. Large guys will have a steel breastplate that weighs 50 pounds, and a 5 foot nothing player could make a steel breastplate that weighs 20 pounds. Then you would have to have a player height chart for the weight of the armor.... etc. and it ...

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells
I think Spell Points need to go as well. Out of curiosity, have spell points in Darkon always been in their current form? I seem to remember playing a DnD (3.5) Cleric, where I was limited to x number of level 5 spells, y number of level 4 spells, etc. per day. I was playing a level ~12 Cleric and ...
