Re: So Rza had this idea......

Maybe there should be a Royal Bank of Darkon, so that everything could be handled differently? You can always try to imitate old-style financial progressions.

At Darkon we're generally better off without a sense of smell anyway.

Yeah the same happens with swords too, you should ideally keep them on the flat sides. But I agree, I've thought the same thing before.

I -believe- it was any two-handed over 6' of length. Don't quote me on it, though.

Re: how to make axes...

I pretty much came to the same conclusion, Lonewraith. Hell, 6" of foam from core is going to be safe if the weapons is anywhere under 10 feet long, as long as the striking surface is long enough. Anything over 8" is overkill, and just adding to the head weight and overall chance of foam f...

Re: how to make axes...

Yeah, sorry I didn't make it. My GF's cat escaped the house and was missing that day so we stayed home looking for him. Found that cat, btw. As far as axe construction, it's not too difficult. I made a bearded axe with a stabbing spear tip that worked pretty well. I used a 1" pvc pipe core, the...

Events Locations Addresses?

I think some of the events locations addresses linked on google maps are incorrect. Am I wrong? If not this needs to be remedied.

Re: Battle-Axe (Black, Shield Destroying)

In theory, 6-10 is good, but I tend to lean to the 6 for safety reasons. Anything more than 6 edge-to-core will (eventually)cause rolling failures, The foam we use(and any I can think of for that matter) just isn't rigid enough to hold against rolling over that length, and rolling means your weapon ...

Re: Battle-Axe (Black, Shield Destroying)

Personally, as someone who has built and fielded Battle Axe and Halberd, I'd recommend 6" be the standard for edge-to-core on all axes. Anything less is not an axe shape, anything more causes blade rolling and subsequent failures. Let the blade & weapon length be the defining feature betwee...

Re: Heraldry and Livery

I understand the colors are currently reserved. I'm talking about opening them up. I'm generally against things that stifle creativity. Someone might want to make a really cool green tree shield, or maybe a yellow sun, just for example. The colors themselves are not reserved entirely. You simply ca...

Re: Battle-Axe (Black, Shield Destroying)

If you're using blue foam, drywall grid tape between the glued layers will help prevent rolling.

Re: Battle-Axe (Black, Shield Destroying)

I am in the same camp as Tyriel and Thrush here. I happen to have a black axe close to the minimum specs, and it's still chunky. I wasn't aware you could do a bearded or danish style however, and assumed the minimum edge dimensions applied all the way from the blade to the haft creating a bulky squa...

Re: Heraldry and Livery

It doesn't have to be a letter. It could be a symbol, just something that designates the magic or deflection property. The point is to not reserve a whole color.

Re: Warbands

After the last event I talked to a few of the people planning to form a warband. Really what they want is the right to wear colors, carry a banner, a unifying symbol, and the right to fight as a unit. I submit that Darkon should change it's Nomad rules to allow these things to Nomads. Most of these ...

If anyone wants to spearhead a proposal to change the wording, by all means go for it. I'm abstaining from leading rules proposal actions until I have more years...No one is going to want a newb trying to change things, even if it's something that really needed changing.

Re: Dagger Clarification

This could use some modification. If it's a shaft length and not a striking surface, then it shouldn't be written as a striking surface. Also, 16" isn't the minimum length of a short sword... it's the minimum length of a short sword's blade.

Dagger Clarification

Dagger (Red weapon) Daggers must have a striking surface between 6" and 8" in length. The total length of a dagger may not exceed 16", the minimum length of a short sword. The tip of the dagger must have additional padding since this weapon is used for thrusting only. I'm confused by...

Why not instead of restricting the colors, you just make the relics and magic shields more obvious? Put a big bold letter on them. M = Magic, D = Deflection, viola.

Re: Weapon check-in

I've always aimed to make my pommels too big to go into an eye, which is pretty much the intent of the rulings. Although, I think you're not playing safe if your hands get that close to someone's face while swinging a weapon anyways.
