Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

I am just sick of every discussion involving magic devolving to the same tired debate. So many other things we can be doing. Nothing here is preventing anything else from occurring. What else did you have in mind with magic?[/quote] I don't have the boner against magic that you have, mainly cause I...

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

Kevin, I believe you are in the minority. You have made the same argument time and again with no effect. I also know your a smart man, and seeing as you have not put forth a proposal you also know you are in the minority. If I am wrong and you honestly believe that you represent a majority, then tak...

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

So far the only 'problem' I have seen identified that needs a solution is the spells themselves. Monosyllabic streams of words should not be a spell. It should SAY something.... The non-munchkins out there have some funny spells. I do not see AOE as a problem. I do not see mage spells in general as ...

Besides...if we were a sport we should have bad sportsmanship violations and there are A LOT of bad sports in this club....noobs, veterans and Knights of the Realm alike.

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

"sport" was added in the 21st century. LARP was never removed. Sport is one of those terms people don't agree on. In Europe we would be a sport but according to some official organizations we are not (we fail to meet one of the 4 criteria for being a sport). Anyway, we are a LARP and Gor k...

Re: Old Publications

If anyone has copies of country publications I am more than happy to scan them in.

I am also going to scan an upload old copies of rulebooks. I have Eamarthengarth rules and the Sept 1994 Darkon Rulebook.

Old Publications

Three issues of the 1993 Tavern Tales
3 Issues of the Gryphons Word (1992 and 1995)
1 Issue of the Peoples Journal of Dai-Dagan, Fall 1993.

The country publications were a manifestation of the RP that went on back in the early 90's.

Re: Gambesons as AR1

Not sure what price has to do with it.

My gambeson is historically accurate to the 14th century design excepting the fill. Tarim's is historically accurate including the fill. Your idea would make very expensive and historically accurate equipment against the rules.

Not sure how that makes sense.

Sure. Remove historical fabrics from the proposal.

Re: Proposal in prep. for chapter discussions...

Just a couple of examples of what editing (with professionals) does: Fletchings - We use this word...WRONG. An arrow and crossbow always have a single fletching. A fletching is made up of multiple fletches. Arrows need three fletches and crossbows need two. Quillion - This is a indefinite and fictit...

Re: Cavalier - Replace Omitted Text

Has the Noble Council put together a proposal yet?? This is the last option I had, though I think it is very different then what the NC was proposing. Cavalier is a restricted class. A participant who was earned Order of the Sword may elect to give up all ranks in a single class (in which they are 1...

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

Darkon is unique in that we can accommodate differing interests and here you are working on proposal decrease those options. Why? To what end? Everything I see in this thread (excepting the Steel Skin and AOE) is designed to make Mages engage in active combat. This is wrong. Right now the mage is on...

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

Please let me know if I am understanding the direction the 5 or 6 people posting in this thread would like to go:

Change magic to make it so that magic does not disrupt the flow of combat and forces players who are mages to engage more actively in the combat aspect of the game.

Re: Discussion - Remove offensive spells

To the "lack of skill" yada yada... we are making these posts based on expertise. I don't use a morningstar because I don't like to. I like feeling like I'm hitting someone with a stick, and stab them in the kneecaps. But somedays I truly want to kill for scorekeeping. I get the chain and...

Discussion - Remove offensive spells

I think the game needs to have a serious discussion about removing combat spells from the game. These types of skills require no real combat skill, disrupt the flow of real fighters in combat and make us look silly. Other games make fun of Darkon because of the pillow fights and personally, I hate g...

Re: Thanx

Is this what Darkon has been reduced too? A guy says thanks for the help and we turn it into a "you suck if..." conversation?

I find this entire thread in very poor taste and anyone telling other people they suck because of a skill used or lack of skill is a poor sport.

Bizzaro was never in the rulebook, its in the Board of Directors Manual.

It is on the list to be added to the EVENTS section though.

Re: To the realm, about some of these rules im seeing...

I will re-iterate Slaters comments from the NC meeting.

I do not give a * how something is constructed, the only thing I ask is "is it safe" We need to get away from these specifics in certain construction aspects.

I hear ya. That is not my focus or agenda. The rulebook as written right now has a section on events...may as well add other types of events as well. That is the gist of it.

Someone else wants to remove them or make another book to manage, they are free to do so.
