Re: Actually only having ring fights on tourney days?
Really, a bigger issue than ring fights are land actions. When there are wars, people tend to spend most of the time until the war is fought preparing , usually totally on the sidelines. Then, many of them end up being "done for the day" after the war is fought. Even when there are no wars...

Re: Blocking Arrows with Weapons
Fingers,
If you intentionally block, you take a WOUND, regardless of protection. That's what Cailen is saying.
I agree.

More and more, I am coming around to the idea that arrows should be considered to pass through weapons.

Re: Blocking Arrows with Weapons
Missile weapons are different, Iltzafein, because: 1. You get an effectively limitless number of spear stabs. 2. You can apply a lot more force with a stab to push through/past weapons. 3. The rules are designed around blocking melee weapons with melee weapons and shields, and are generally balanced...

Re: Blocking Arrows with Weapons
If you're standing there and an arrow happens to hit your weapon, no problem. If you see the archer and then position your weapon in between yourself and the direction of the archer, then that's blocking. Especially if you're turning axes or hammers sideways to cover more of you. That again is bloc...

Re: Blocking Arrows with Weapons
The problem comes when people hold their weapon in front of them and are charging the archer or otherwise moving about. That's no longer incidental contact, and is using a weapon as a shield. It's even cheesier in Darkon because if the arrow with its huge head even barely brushes the edge of the wea...

Natural progression. I am not saying FB is the be-all-end-all, but web forums will gradually and slowly die down to a very small user base.

Re: Rulebook
To be fair, this is NOT typically done at the end of the year. It's typically done any time new rules goes into effect (that is, July 1st & January 1st). There is no reason why one can't cut & paste the new rules into the Word doc rulebook, print it as PDF, and put it up on the website. It t...

I remember you, Freewynd, even if you didn't remember me at the last Dag event (and thought that girl's arrow hit my leg :D). I was at the crossover event at Page's Farm (Summer War) back in 1999 or 2000 or so, and I may have been at the Linganore Winery one (but my memory gets hazy the further back...

Re: Stance on Hay Bail Walls
It's primarily because attackers are afraid of being magic'd into oblivion, and/or standing outside with no way in.
Gates easier to take down, ditch AOE. All of a sudden, fights would kick off with all speed.

Re: Stance on Hay Bail Walls
It happens on Adventures and at campouts, too, though. I've seen Fireball-Mend-Fireball-Mend-etc. fights go on a LOT. Then, you have people inside trying to watch for Passwall and such, and other people casting things to negate, etc. It becomes more about what the rules say is technically possible w...

Re: Stance on Hay Bail Walls
As for the second, I enjoy long sieges but sometimes they get so long it becomes stupid. Sieges are long because there's too much rules abstraction to deal with. Some of the fastest & most brutal siege fights we ever had were those with physical representations of walls. Even recently, when we ...

Re: Stance on Hay Bail Walls
Also, we could just get rid of Passwall. It's one of those spells that creates more arguments than fun. I'd love to sit down with you off-line, Inox, and go over these kinds of rules... those that create more arguments than fun... and brain-storm either updates to them to improve the fun aspect or ...

Re: Stance on Hay Bail Walls
It almost feels like spells like passwall are designed to work with walls that don't actually exist. Bingo. And this is the problem with goofy abstractions like rope walls: They encourage the creation of other rules that involve even more make-believe. This not only confuses the hell out of new peo...

I am fully behind just A/C day.
No powers or special abilities for anyone. Just pick up the gear you want, including shields.
In fact, let's make it A/C/R day. RELICLESS.

Re: Monks & Orange Headbands
Correct. At one time, Monks all needed a headband, which was dumb precisely for the other examples you cite i.e. Druid, Mage, & Warrior Mage).
Unless you have a *skin, there is no need for a headband for any class.

Re: Replacement system for land map
I would just like to say that CC3 is a complete nightmare to work with, operating like it was coded entirely by people who only grudgingly accept use of GUIs at all, and still use the original GNOME desktop (when forced). A Land Marshal making mistakes with that map is almost inevitable. We need bet...

Headlamps are goddamn awful.
First off, I've never seen it done where it didn't look entirely modern. Might as well just put on some headphones as well.
Second, they are much more difficult to keep aimed at the ground. Inadvertent blinding is almost inevitable.

Drachenheim was Amo's. Pretty sure he was wearing that surcoat as early at '86.
