Re: Campfires at Bellum

Andrick's reaffirmation of the post in 2013 still stands, as he is still President.

Ergo, NO additional fire-containing devices may be brought.

You can email him at president@darkon.org or catch him on Facebook (Tim Beavers) to see if he wishes to amend that restriction.

Re: I WANT YOUR SILVER!!

How are you confused by this? "If you have silver coin lying around at home please bring to the next event. I will swap it out for darkon gold." In other words, if one brings silver Darkon coins, he will exchange them for gold Darkon coins. Let me head off another possible source of confus...

Re: Paint over Plasti Dip

Thank you for demonstrating my point that ill defined terms lead to miscommunication. Since you do not wish to engage in a civil discussion we will have to agree to disagree on the necessity of well written comprehensive documentation. It might be superfluous in your life experience, in my experien...

Re: Paint over Plasti Dip

Try coming out for a bit before trying to change the rules. I have come out a bit, if being a new regular since November meets your undefined term. The point of course is that I am not trying to change the rules, but rather I am trying to get the Printed Rules to reflect the generally accepted unwr...

Re: Quarter Staffs

Balance. Mages don't get short spears or White glaives or axes w/ stab tips either.

If you want to expand the Thief/Assassin weapons selection more toward what it once was, maybe it would seem reasonable to give the already-incredibly-powerful Mage more options.

Re: I hate the FB page

I think we should have one board for Board of Directors, Noble Council, and Event Elder/Promoter announcements ONLY.

Then, an unmoderated one where people can more or less run amok.

Re: Paint over Plasti Dip

Clearly it does not go without saying else I would not have asked the questions I asked. The rule book often makes mention of what something must be made of, but only in some places says what the outer layer must be. Let me turn it around - what CAN'T be used as a layer outside of cloth or Plasti d...

Re: Quarter Staffs

Several reasons. It's clumsy because of the need for padding on both ends, which makes it much harder to swing in the ways that make a staff effective. Yellow damage can't kill to a limb in Darkon. It requires two hands to use effectively, but doesn't have the range of the other 2H weapons, nor can ...

Re: Paint over Plasti Dip

I don't think it needs to be "made explicit", as it goes without saying. While plate armor must be made of steel, some people paint theirs. While sword pommels and quillons must be cloth, foam, tape, and PD, some people paint theirs. Most cloth-covered shields and all PD shields are painte...

Re: I hate the FB page

Social media in some form is here to stay. Rather than "get of my lawn" the trend, why not do what Ginger suggested--what Dag already does--and have a moderated and unmoderated Darkon FB page?

Re: Defining a Member Group

Well, being a "land mapster" I could say that I'd miss it, but I wouldn't miss the muss and fuss. I am working on an "abstract conquest system" that still uses battles, seiges, land searches etc... but doesn't actually use the hexes. Monies and conquest points will rate nations ...

Re: Plasti dip

Also bear in mind that DAP, PD, and even generally the primers/paints are going to contain solvents. These will outgas if given time to cure at each stage, but if you rush the PDing before the DAP is dry, for instance, you may loosen your foam.

Can't rush any of this stuff.

Re: Defining a Member Group

The land game is pretty important to the ideas of actions having weight within the game. If an unlanded member group can exist, they can freely harass any group without any real consequences. They can fight, harass, thieve, and assassinate, and the only thing their targets can do is just fight them...

Re: A New Perspective on the Mage class within Darkon

Warrior Mages are characters that have divided their time between martial pursuits and the study of the arcane. They are not permitted to use a shield of any kind, but they may use any non‐shieldbreaking weapon. They may wear armor of no greater than AC 3. All spells are as the Mage versions, unles...

Let's go back to real wooden logs and such for walls and you can bring real ladders. I will be all for it.

I am just sick of the goofy abstractions like rope walls and swimming-by-crawling.

You could also be a Warrior Mage with missile ward.

Re: A New Perspective on the Mage class within Darkon

A mage has to have about two years of average play until they can get steelskin. How long you have to play is irrelevant. If something is overpowering, it only matters if people are using it on the field. There are many Mages over 10th rank. MANY. You're also assuming that the mage in question has ...

When I started playing, I lived in Carroll County as well. There aren't going to be a lot of people right down the street, but as Lord Valfryn said, a lot of the game's players are right in Baltimore. I'm sure if you hang out on the Facebook page and make it out to an event, you'll meet some relativ...

Re: Discussion - Siege Ladders/Scaling Ladders

Not really, because it's now a new mechanic everyone has to figure out and figure out how it interacts with everything else.

More abstractions slow down the action.

And, it's yet another thing that will play poorly for spectators.
