Re: Discipline Transparency for countries & the NC

I think that if you want a country contact, it should be the same person identified to the Magistrate under the current rules as being able to speak for a country. The NC is performing a vital function for the game as it is handling safety and discipline issues; it's not reasonable to suddenly expec...

Re: Discussion - Siege Ladders/Scaling Ladders

I am not a fan of this, and here's why: That is yet another abstraction, which will look terrible to people spectating. It involves a more complex interplay of rules that has to be interpreted within the current already-terrible fortification system, and will slow down combat. "No, we had one e...

Re: Who has oversight of the NC?

Yeah, the NC doesn't have any real power other than in implementing safety regulations, the language of which still has to pass through Senate. The NC merely recommends suspensions for safety & hit taking issues--the Board suspends players. The Senate upholds suspensions. The NC can vote to remo...

Bows at Roundtree - ALLOWED

Due to general confusion & misinformation, we have previously prohibited bows at Roundtree. This restriction is removed going forward, and they will be usable at the 2014-02-09 event.

Bows at Roundtree. Carry on.

Maybe Elidor should give it a go, then.

Re: heraldry and livery

It looks like the rule now indicates "colors and symbolism" on p.15.

Not sure when this was all totally rewritten, but looking at older rulebooks, it seems that the symbol was required as well. So yeah, symbol needed. :/

I sort of have one. Anok rebuilt the head a few years ago, and it's now much more compact and rather different-looking from the stock Edhellen spear.

No, he's not. That is the page name (w/ extension) of the Rules page that existed up until very recently, when someone changed it to "Publications" (which is publications.html). The modification date shows March 6, 2013 for publications.html. Man, that old html rules page...it was terribly...

Re: The Search for Maelstrom- 1/12/14

Immediate shield break? I think there were just too many folks alive at that point. It's hard to have any single monster (or pair) stand against 15-20 adventurers pressing hard, especially when it's a pack of mostly vets. Here's some trivia: in the very first Maelstrom adventure (which is on tape......

Re: The Search for Maelstrom- 1/12/14

See, I had a True Strike weapon and all I got to do was block. The standing vs. giant-sized creatures is incredibly effective when the giant-sized creatures don't have other effects. I liked what Valfryn was saying about giving giants other effects: Immediate shieldbreak, can't be grappled, etc. Mak...

Re: The Search for Maelstrom- 1/12/14

OOC: I know it's a lot harder to pull off, but multiple-person dragons seem to do the best job of holding parties back. The one Skip/Bannor used to have was phenomenal for that; the "claws" were long weapons that looked like claws. Also, the claws and tail probably need to be shieldbreakin...

Re: Spears - what is legal?

Pipe insulation will likely be too little padding for the shaft of a spear, especially if you have a thicker, heavier core. Also, it tends to break down really rapidly, whereas other closed cell foam or pool noodles will hold up a lot better in combat. The area of a spear below the head is going to ...

Rules Changes for 2014

This is my attempt to collect rules changes made throughout 2013 from the posts to this board. As the rulebook was not updated by the 2013 Board to reflect any of the changes made, either in the first or second half of the year, this is a best effort situation where something could have been missed....

Arguably, the most important thing in the game is the rulebook... seems to me the hardest thing to find.

For some reason, someone moved it to a new section called "Publications".

2014 Charity Events

As has been done in previous years, Darkon will be having several charity events in 2014. Charities are TBD, but at least some of these will be for Darkon to make up for monies lost when the cashbox was stolen in late 2013. The charity events will be during the Spring & Fall Tourneys, and the ca...

Re: Physical Coin transactions proposal

Again, Templars provided letters that would allow money to be retrieved from other Templars in far-flung locations. Somehow I doubt Templars easily made payments to Muslim-controlled regions with paper. Templars could not pay the Chinese emperor remotely with a letter. What you have in Darkon is a b...

If the wealthy of old found ways to mitigate risks in the transfer of wealth; why not us? The existence of...

The initial post above has been edited to remove rules no longer in place.

Also, while Community Moderators show in green, Executive Board members show in blue. There should not generally be any posts from an admin level account, as that's primarily for the backend.
