Question about the quarter staff.

I'm interested in constructing a quarter staff but I was curious as to whether or not we can add stab tips and if they would count as red damage. In a real world sense it would be like a wooden staff with metal spikes on the ends.

AKA spear.

Page 23 of the rulebook, "If a yellow weapon has a thrusting tip, it will only cause yellow damage. A quarterstaff is the only weapon that may have a striking surface on both ends, and even then it may only have a thrusting tip on one end."

Yep, yellow damage, stabby on one end. My Qstaff is stabby safe on both ends from when it was allowed, however one end is marked with tape, and that is the only end I stab with.

They are correct; It counts as yellow damage.
It is not logical to think of it in a "real world" kind of way. Its, from what I understand, a game balance thing.
If you want a red stabby get a spear like Ericson said.

I guess to expand a bit on this, two-sided weapons are effective if you are a genetically enhanced mutant zombie slayer or a highly disciplined ninja warrior that can walk on bamboo stalks.

Spears can be short (3.5 feet) or super long (10 feet, keep it at 9 if you do not Elidor to single you out since we are the monopoly on long spears). So make a 4-5 foot spear and it will give you the same effect.

The closest thing you could get to a quarterstaff with a red stab would be a 5-6 foot white glaive. Only difference being class restrictions (can't use a glaive as a mage or cleric) and the damage type.
