ordering supplies from edhellen

Post by lorewraith » 2013-01-16

Tomorrow is pay day so time to order supplies. One 6ft 1" pole for a glaive and 3 arrow kits. Should I be requesting then to resize the heads in 3" diameter or 3 1/8 diameter?

I wasn't aware they would accomodate custom requests on their arrow kits. I don't see from their website (at a quick glance) the size of the foam block they send for the head. If it's a 4" block, it's up to you to size, by how much you compress the foam with your cover.

Also, if you want to simply make your own arrows (most here do), here's what I've done in the past: you can use a hole saw (like you'd use to install a doorknob) to cut out the closed-cell disks that you use for support. You can see in the picture below that the 2" high cylinder is actually four 1/2" disks glued together:

One of these days I'll get around to making some new arrows myself ;)

actually the head foam for the arrow comes as a 3inch square in the kit, so their arrows are a 3inch diameter.

Then keep in mind that our arrows must be 3" in diameter when finished. That means you can't compress the foam much at all when putting the cover on.

So getting the arrow kits in a slightly bigger size just encase they do compress. And as for the cores...my spear and black glaive are both 1 inch fiberglass cores from edhellen.

The above statement is not true. It does pass at darkon and it's actually made from nice materials. Better than a lot of peoples * actually. You should do more research before you bad mouth someone's *.

The arrow kits aren't a big deal because they are 3 inches across. The most you will compress are the corners, and from corner to corner, it would be around 4.25. Sometimes you can compress the top, but when it pushes it down, it forms a curve that still ends up being 3" from side to side.

Tyriel Clubs (which they call ominiblades) ae only 2" The rules state they have to be 3" now. Bad Knight read the rules.

I did look at their junk their shields don't use wood they fail. Their clubs are too small they fail. And that is 90% of what they sell. Get over yourself.

But you are right their stuff is *.

Isn't that like saying Easton's hockey sticks are * cause they can't be used to play football? Seems like that's what you're saying. Maybe their stuff works great for games where those specs work... Might even be the best. You obviously disapprove of any game allowing 2" omniblades and coreless shields. Seems narrow minded.

Your right Thrush. I'm sure for Amtgard their stuff is great.

But it was being recommended for Darkon use which it doesn't pass.

I Also hate Amtgard Tech.

I have some Warlord gear, been using them for years. You have to mod them slightly to get it to work for Darkon, but after about 15 minutes worth of work, they should be fine. The foam that Warlord uses is tough stuff and is comparable to the foam that Edhellen uses.

I'd rather just buy it from FF and not have to mod it.

I was more so going with what baiter said. You can use there stuff, but obviously you would have to mod it for Darkon. Its not hard if you don't have the materials, and a lot of edhellen stuff can suck for Darkon and their great weapons are one of those things.

I know the * rules, and what I'm talkin about. One of my good friends used to work for them. They also sell bat(club) fries which are 2.5 which would pass if the past presidential ruling is still going on.

I personally think Forged Foam's bladed weapons are trash. They break down way faster than many other micro cellular bladed weapons. They are a huge step above blue foam, but they are tip heavy, lousy foamed blades, that their users swear by to the point of arguing their safety because they spent too much on them after they've injured people. Their great weapons may be the unsafest weapons on any field. Now, their shields and spears are freaking great, and I recommend them.

Man, sure is great that they don't make anything that meets Amptgard spec... 'Cause that stuff sucks.

Just about anything bought online needs to be modded for the game.
Fo' reals tho- Artex, why you so grouchy? If you know the secrets to uber l00tz and people aren't dialed in, don't be mad.Be glad. You'll have the clear advantage! Just keep letting the people who have been on the muthafukken cutting edge of foamcraft think that they've got a clue about what they're doing. No harm in that, right?

FWIW - I did not continue that ruling. I felt it was an illegal ruling since the rules state 3" it is not the authority of a Board member to change it.

Thrush - FF makes swords using the good foam too. I think it just started though. I have two of them.

All of their MC stuff seems to degrade quicker internally than some of the stuff you can buy on your own from various suppliers online... BUt, as you say, they may have changed. I, unlike some others apparently, am VERY capable of like lots of different stuff!
