Plastidip Darkon 2012!
For those interested in checking it out, I started a Facebook group called Plastidip Darkon 2012. The mission is to discuss and educate in the use of PD and MC foam and proliferate the Realm with superior looking, practical shields and weapons over the next year. If there's anything you'd like to teach or learn, look it up!

You can also check out this one. It's not Darkon specific by any means, but there are a lot of people doing PD on there and you can get information from them. http://www.facebook.com/groups/plastidip/
There are 242 members as of right now including some Darkonians.

Good deal. Myself and another guy are looking into becoming the first to plastidip in ORCS. These should help out a lot.

Are you allowed to PD armor? A friend and I had an idea about coating legal armor in it to make it look like bark, scales, and etc.

I'm not sure why anybody would have to ask the NC about it. It's already safe for the face of shields. Having it on armor wouldn't be any more dangerous. The real question would be for the President. But then again, people paint on their armor constantly. I guess the most important thing is that it might be hard to figure out how thick the armor is and what it is made out of if you PD it.

I think PDing an underarmor shirt with treebark for barkskin has the potentail to look bad ass.

Re: Plastidip Darkon 2012!
We'd all have to see this. We PD weapons and shields to make big, nerfy items look realistic. Armor can be made out of authentic materials and can look realistic naturally. So PD armor will be seen as naturally suspect by some.
Applying PD designs to safe, legal armor should be no problem at all. Unless in doing so you really twist things up...concealing the armor materials entirely, looking like a cosplay reject from Otakan, etc...it all boils down to common sense and I don't think anyone will grief you for doing something cool.

PD could easily make 20 gauge armor look like 14 gauge...

Re: Plastidip Darkon 2012!
That is my worry about the Armor that people would try to hide thickness and etc. Though they do increase the wet, make the armor more waterproof, and increase its insulation, so people would pay for it eventually.
Then again marshals are allowed to cut into equipment so.

Inquire with Lord Anok, he stated on the FB page he may be taking commisions, or Alhazar of the Northen Kingdoms, who recently has done commish work. I don't know of anyone else who is capable and has the time atm.

it is my understanding that PD doesn't really work well on leather. you'd be better off just learning how to tool the leather and dye or paint it.

The cloth striking surface for Darkon pd weapons. Do you put it on before or after the pd?

Re: Plastidip Darkon 2012!
I do it before, DAP it to the foam, and cover it a little with the PD to make sure it isn't moving. Just make sure your weapon is built to last first because it's a pain to take it off.

Re: Plastidip Darkon 2012!
The way I like to design mine is to keep the cloth interchangeable. I'd experimented with using PD flats stuck on with carpet tape, but unfortunately that tape fails in the rain. Now if I want to do basic rune designs on cloth flats I just use Tulip Slick Paints which go right on the cloth and are not effected by rain. Has sort of a plastic rubber texture itself and doesn't look bad. Still experimenting.
