$5 is not an epic jump from $2. It adds up a bit quicker, yes but at the same time very few people will turn down a day of fun for $5. As to the argument on gas, garb, etc. when I started coming out at 19 I used borrowed garb, armor, weapons, and rides until I had the money to collect my own.

I used to budget $20 an event to include $5 for gas w/whoever I rode with, food afterwards and check in. That is still plenty possible now. Garb can be had for cheap, and many newer players are brought out by current players who have equipment to spare until they can get their own.

The excuse of $5 is too expensive just seems a little silly to me, and I am broke. I don't have a great job, or money coming in to make Darkon easy to afford no matter what I want. But $5 is cheaper than a pack of cigarettes.

That's how I feel about camp outs. I was more for raising the cost of them due to their extended play time and site fees, but since I don't attend them; I couldn't in good concience try to raise their price.

Campouts already pay for themselves. It's the new sites that don't necessarily get covered by the receipts of the day.

So renting Patuxent River Park for the weekend costs the same as renting it for Sunday afternoon? Why don't we just rent the entire park for the weekend then?

But in all seriousness, that's exactly what I am doing now - showing up and talking to friends and watching from the sideline. Just that whereas before I would have tossed my $2 into the pot to *not* participate, now I dont' pay and just *not* participate. Darkon still gets the money - since my husband does toss in his $5 - they just aren't going to get any extra from me like they would have in the past unless I actually am planning to participate (like I did at the Spring Noble Tourney - which I paid my $5 check-in so that "Kesrya" could "enchant" my noble's sword as his "Lady's Favor").

When my little squirt is big enough that he does not require constant attendance so that he does not try to assassinate the King, I will start paying check-in again and actually start stepping out on the field.

Yup. The site is odd in its pricing scheme. They charge us almost the same for a day event as a campout.

All alternate dates were taken as well. I was also scheduling other sites at the same time making it difficult to plan. Know how it all works now we can schedule the first month or so in December and then make the rest once we know what dates we get Pax River Park. The key to getting Pax River is flexibility, which we didn't have much this year.
