Waiver question

Post by Ogre Solaris » 2012-08-21

Kindred will have some people from the Silverdain Wargaming Club coming up for campout with us. They use Darkon rules and are located closer to Reunion Farm than probably anyone at Darkon.

They had some questions I couldn't answer about the waivers, mainly this one.

If a person is under 18, and their parent isn't attending camp out, do they need some form of ID for the parent's signature or something? I can get them waivers and get them signed before they show up, but if someone is under 18 can they just have their parent sign it before they come?

I didn't think this would be a problem but I want to make sure before someone shows up and is told he/she has to go home because the parent needs to be present or we need documentation proving guardianship or whatever.

Also, the waiver has disappeared from the current rulebook from what i can see, at least the online rulebook. I assume the ones from the previous rulebook are still valid?

If there are waivers available on Saturday at check in, logically, it should not be too hard to ensure they arrive Friday. Anyone who has never fought in Darkon before (ie signed a waiver) should not do so before signing one. Thanks for asking!!! As long as they are over 16 they may play Darkon, I believe, but they will need the waiver filled out correctly.

Can anyone help Ogre and our guests out?

We're going to print a bunch of the old ones off so they will be there Friday as long as there's not some new super-secret one not in the rulebook anymore. I'm not sure who they would turn them into though on Friday.

You should hand them into the Secretary of Darkon at check-in, he has new people fill out the waivers then and there, gives them a little Welcome to Darkon speech and collects their waivers. Hope that helps.

Still need to answer their question about the parental permission thing though. They have one or two guys under 18.

Looking through the rulebook, I do not see anything separate for "attending campouts". Is there something in place that just isnt in the rulebook? Per the online rb, it simply says that anyone under 18 must have a signed permission waiver from their parent or guardian. If you have one of these, I dont see why you wouldnt be able to participate

There is a link to the waivers on the same page as the rules.

Have them bring completed formed to the event, yes they have to show they are 16.

Some campouts have been 18 and over only at the requirement of the site, currently we do not have this policy.

I would make sure that all participants have a valid form of photo id with them to be presented upon request by an authority. Just incase :)

I miss the good ol' days... when having a "dirt stache" was good enough to prove you were 16.

Ogre, since it looks like it may have been passed over, I'd say give the waiver to the secretary on Friday night, or another eb member if the sec isn't there. Dont hold me to that though, as that just seems like the ideal thing to do.

An authority figure might want to chime in with something to say about newbs fighting on Friday night without having turned waivers yet.

Yeah, I was thinking of tracking down someone on the EB Friday and getting them waivers just to make sure no one is going to cause a legal/insurance issue.

What about the parental/guardian signature thing? Do we verify that in any way like does the parent have to be there with an ID or guardian with some kind of documentation? That's the part people were unsure of mostly because I don't think that the parent/guardians are going to be present.

I have never heard of that being a requirement. Everyone i ever brought out back in the day who was under 18 just brought a signed waiver with them...

So to repeat since it seems to have been missed.

The WAIVER is on the website, the link is on the same page as the rulbook.

They MUST HAVE A COMPLETED waiver in the hands of the corporation BEFORE fighting.

This campout is open to all participants that are 16 and over.
