Rain and burtonsville.

Post by Sir Tyriel Firebrand » 2012-08-25

So it looks like it might rain some over night. Will the event still because burtonsville? I know there is something that says we can't be there if the field is wet, or am I wrong.

Your not wrong, we cannot use the field at Burtonsville when it is raining. I think we used to default to CCBC when it was not possible to use Burtonsville.

Do we have an alt site for today? It is 0630 and has been raining on and off since about 0200.

Perhaps Centennial Park or Redland? I don't honestly know the details behind the agreements the club has with any of the fields, so I can only speculate.

I guess we will have to hope an official announcement with be coming.

Any EB information here? I'm out on the eastern shore and don't want to drive all the way if its wet and we can't use the fields.

The bigger concern is why is Darkon a bunch of pussies now? You drive to the event to level up your character, to go home after a one room mod? Get * Darkon. What's the point in coming to check in if you are not going to play? At 3:15 there were less than 40 people fighting. At 4:15 there were 8. At 4:30 I was in the 2nd to last car leaving. It was warm and rainy, what's wrong with that? Check in ends at 1, fighting doesnt usually get rolling until 1:30-2, and that's IF wars and land actions don't take most of the field away till 2:30-3... This summer has really shown the decline of the quality of players in the this game over the last 10 years... Does it really need to be between 70 and 80 with a little cloud cover and low humidity for Darkon to field 200 on the field from 1-5pm? How are we gonna grow if no one plays? Why would I want to join a game that I invariably have to drive some distance to, where most people come just to level up their character and roll out after an hour? I wouldn't... If I came form the Eastern shore for yesterday's event, I'd be LIVID that I spent the money. Darkon currently does'nt deserve people willing to drive 3 hours to the events.

Sorry I had to draft my Fantasy Football team in order to defend my title for this season or I would have been there to flounder in the mud with you brother! And the potential to win another $300 > fighting 8 dorks in the rain soaked ground :)

See, that's respectable, I'd give up a day of fighting for a chance to make $300 too, most of us could use it...

Maybe we should make a "fantasy darkon" league. That'll bring em all out!

It would look just like Darkon now. Show up at 12:30 for check in, do your thing till about 1:30, socialize till about 2:30, pretend you fight, leave...

For what it's worth, the fighting yesterday was excellent, and the rain added a really cool atmosphere to the combat. I had such a good time, I didn't sit down once or leave the field until I left for the day, and that's a big deal since I'm old and fat.

Yeah, the rain in the woods makes everything look, feel and smell better (minus the people). Definitely a more "real" feel for some reason. It was fun to fight you man!

I agree, it seems at most events it's hard to get the ball rolling and get people to start fighting. At best you'll get a rag tag group of 15 guys sparring by 1:30. That's a really long time after official check in opens. I can understand rolling out early if the weather is crappy, no one wants a soggy sword and shield after putting in time and money to make one. But Damn, fighting at 1:30? That defeats the purpose of coming in on time. Maybe we should make check in start at 1and spare people the grief of having to wake up at *gasp* 10 o'clock.

Hmmm Fantasy Darkon League. Who would go 1st Pick? Slindar in his prime? Esperonse? Drunken Thrush? Flagar?

The world may never know.

Since I wont be participating in the fall tourney and will most likely be eldering to take some pics, Ill do my best to have 2 teams start at 1pm on the Next Oregon Ridge Event. Any requests for types of fights that day?

Open field CTF. As countries get done with land events and what not, you can ad them to the team that isn't scoring. Just keep it going...

The rain does weed out the fighters from those who just want to stand around and look cool. It is HARD work to fight in the elements, whether that is rain, snow, hot, muggy, or even cold. It takes those who want to fight and makes it real. The people that we are portraying never stopped or left a battle early because it was undesirable weather conditions. NO! they stood and fought! Best part of the day was when you sigh at the end of the day when you get into your car because you are exhausted, it has indeed been a good day. :)

Not sure what the name of the game would be, they always do it at the end of a day Paintballing.

Two teams, one with some sort of advantage (like fortifications). Team 1 is attacking Team 2, and any casualties on Team 2 join Team 1. Eventually Team 1 is overran and loses. Teams switch sides and reset. Rinse and Repeat.

This is pretty much the awsomest scenario ever. You don;t even have to do it with 3 teams, you can let countries, or guilds, or just a bunch of dudes who think they are awesome try to hold it. It's all about a stop watch.

I have to agree with Thrush here. I am old and fat and I fought longer then 80% of the people that were there Sunday. By the time I left around 3:30, there might have been 40 people left fighting. I don't get it, but it sure does seem like a lot of people just come out to socialize these days. Kinda sad really.
