Thus Always to Traitors

Post by Guy The Bloodied » 2014-06-07

And so it was that Warboss Guy set about building a great fire. He spent many days in the Gloamwood, felling trees that had stood for untold centuries. The slaves would watch silently, not daring to speak their questions aloud: Why was he doing this? Why weren't they being forced to cut the wood and stack it themselves? It made them afraid.
After 8 days his work was finished: A mighty pyre, standing like a mountain before the Chaos Monastery. Guy looked at his hands. They were covered in dried blood and torn blisters. He couldn't stop them from shaking as he dipped the end of an arrow in oil, set it alight, drew back, and loosed. The flaming arrow rose through the darkening sky like a star returning to the heavans, curving gently through the air until it fell back to the earth, landing atop the pyre.
As the sun sank beneath the horizon, a new light was dawning. The pyre burned bright as a star, casting it's light far beyond Ched Nasad.
"Why?" Said a voice at his side. Guy looked and saw Knight Niko at his side, watching the flames with calculating eyes.
"A message," Guy said, "To the traitors. I want them to see it."
The Knight pondered this. "A threat?" She asked.
"No. I don't make threats. This is a promise."
The Knights eyes betrayed nothing.
"What promise is that?"

"They always have a home."

The Knight said nothing for a while. She simply stared into the flames, frowning. Finally she turned on her heel and walked away. Before she was gone, she stopped and looked over her shoulder at him.

"We're going to need more wood." She said.
