From the Desk of the NC...

Many of you ask about what the NC is working on. Here is a small bit of some of the work they have asked me to share with the Realm:

Awards

Knight of the Realm (KR)
Awarded by the Council and Board.
Elligibility and procedures are defined by the Council and the Rules of Play.
Bestows the right to wear personal livery and heraldry and be known as "Sir" or
"Dame" and "Lord" or "Lady."
Identified by the wearing of a white belt.

Armigerous Awards - Awards that when given bestow the right to wear personal
livery and heraldry and be known as "Master" These awards may be given once a
year, nominations should be given to the body responsible by the second event of
October.

Order of the Stag (OS)- Granted by the Board for major contributions of service
to the Club. A Master of The Stag is one who has repeatedly served with
disctinction as marshal, organizer, elder, etc...
Order of the Griffon (OG)- Granted by the Council for demonstrating great
leadership. A Master of The Griffon is one who has led the Club forward as a
club official or furthered the development of the game in some outstanding way.

Order of the Raven (OR)- Granted by the Senate (maybe some future body of
winners) for exemplary performance in the arts. A Master of The Raven may be a
superb roleplayer, has outstanding garb, or someone who makes great weapons,
armor or accessories, or contributes in some extraordinary way to the atmosphere
of the game. A Master of The Raven is one who enriches the game through their
actions and appearance, and espouses their excellence to others.

Order of the Sword (OSW) - Granted for skill at arms and fighting prowess. A
Master of The Sword excels at fighting and is recognized as being among the best
combatants in the Club. Master of The Sword differ from other Orders in that
they must prove themselves in battle to attain the title. A Sword Master is
nominated and approved by the Noble Council, but to receive their title they
must win a Noble Tourney fight as described further in these rules. Master of
The Sword, upon having their title for one season, may defend in Noble Tourneys
against both Noble Council and approved Sword Master opponents. Thus both Nobles
who have won a Tourney, and Sword Master may participate in the Tourney process
as defenders. Sword Master may not fight to advance in titles unless they become
a Knight of the Realm i.e. members of the Noble council. All knights who have
won a bout in Noble Council Tournament are considered Masters of The Sword and
are granted title.. Newly approved and current members of the Noble Council,
upon winning their first Noble Council Tournament are also considered Masters of
The Sword.

Order of the Ring (OOR) - Any member who has achieved membership in all four
Master Orders, the ultimate achievement in the club. Upon attaining Order of the
Ring the member is automatically elevated to Knight of the Realm and awarded all
rights and responsibilities given for said title.

Please be aware that there is significantly more to this than I have posted, also that this is a work in progress. Do not hound the Nobles about portions you do not care for. I assure you there are changes being discussed that likely already address your concern, and as far as adding more to it...I will refer you to the first sentence of this paragraph.

That being said if you would like to post how much you like this, or how you think it is a move in the right directions...then the NC is all ears.

This is awesome. Gives people motivation to work harder at making the game better. Period. There is no down side to this.

Should we decide to open up Cavalier to commoners but still require a contest in the ring to play one, The Order of the Sword would also make a fine pool of fighters to test the mettle of any prospects.

AGREE 100% and I think it is about time to have something like this for everyone to work toward and be able to show thanks for all that gets done!

As Pat pointed out, this is a work in progress and what was posted may not be the exact wording of the final proposal.

One bit in particular that I would like to clarify is with regard to the Order of the Sword. Where the listed proposal states: "A Sword Master is
nominated and approved by the Noble Council, but to receive their title they
must win a Noble Tourney fight as described further in these rules." I BELIEVE that what is meant by "Noble Tourney" are the Spring and Fall tourneys hosted by the NC and NOT NECESSARILY the NC style ring fights.
For example the people that win the various competitions at tourney would be considered for induction into the Order of the Sword, as would the "Champion of Darkon".
The exact criterion for induction is still being discussed.

That being said, the thought right now is to allow Masters of the Order of the Sword to challenge to become cavaliers, and fight an NC defender. In other words do the exact same thing that all of the other cavaliers had to do minus the need to be nobles.

These titles have great meaning and alot of gravitas. It would give more respect to the people who earned them than what we currently have in place...because each Order is very specific in what it represents. If someone is OSW you know they will kick your ass. If someone is Griffon you know they have been great leaders in the Club over the years. It also has layers of achievement. No one would have all 4 of the titles anytime soon. Vets and Nobles would have something to work for as much as brand new players.

The names of the Orders, btw, reflect the history of the Club by using popular, easily recognized icons from the game itself. Stag (service) represents Elidor, now the oldest and probably the most consistently large country in Darkon. Griffon (leadership) represents Mordom, who in their day put forth more EB members than any other group of people by far. Raven (arts) is a nod to Ravenscar, a long defunct country that is the progenitor of the BAMC. There would be no Ched Nasad, Bloody Axe, Sarum and gods know who else, if not for Ravenscar. Order of the Sword is, well, Sword.

"Come to Tuesday Practice, get a belt sash"? Almost as cool as last event's "come to Tuesday Practice, get a title" advertisement.

But for real, come practice fighting!
