It was already determined that we would use the rules as they are written.

This actually does not help the returning veterans since the rules they played under were changed :P

I love the 3 point system idea. I agree with the rationale for Inox's proposal, but I really dislike giving plate even more hits. I believe that is going the wrong direction. We could easily go to a light-medium-heavy system in a way that would leave the vast majority of existing rules unchanged. Consider this:

Light (1 point) armor: Leather
Medium (2 point) armor: Studded/Hide/Sharkmail/CHAIN*
Heavy (3 point) armor: Scale/Butted/Plate

*Red damage does NOT bypass Chain in the same way that it does other 2 point armors, thus it would take one red hit.

So monk's Leather Skin works exactly as it does now. Barkskin is the same (you get a 1 point increase to a maximum benefit of 2 points on a location, i.e. 1 point on an unarmored location, or 2 points where you're wearing light leather or hide). Disguise would also remain unchanged: thieves and assassins would have thier same armor restrictions (leather/studded/hide/sharkmail), but could wear chain in disguise (and be able to take the extra red).

Backstab would mean death for everything hit with it.

I also want to say that we really need to give things an honest try before we change them again. Everyone is crying about what this will do and how bad it is but during testing it did not significantly slow down fights and fighters and rangers did not own the field.

Can't we live with something for a bit before we change it? We lived with the Mordom armor system for years before we moved to a 4 point system and many people hated it...and it didn't break the game.

Armor is also one of the two things that really set us apart from other system. Armor means something, it is worth spending money on not just for looks. Why do we want to be more like other systems and less like what we are....

I sorta agree but I think leather should go away. What we call leather is worthless. It would take more rule adjusting work, but anyone with current leather armor could add rings or studs to keep their armor. So:

AR1 Studded/Ring/Sharkmail
AR2 Chain/Butted/Scale
AR3 Plate/Banded

That's my 2 cents. The weight difference between chain et al is too great to make it the same as studded et al.
Add to that the worthlessness of what we call leather armor and I think this works better.

I think we should play with the current rules for at least 6 months to gauge anything we need to change ... it has taken years since we first started discussing a point system to where we are now and although plate "takes more hits" it onty takes more hits from small weapons (without stabbing) and larger weapons and stabbing have a greater effect on it balencing the force of damage being done. I would have liked as I have said before the head area armor to have one point less it could take but that is not how it was passed.

I do not wish to see our system devalue the heavyer armors I mostly play Darkon because it gives armor a resonable value of hits it can take before wounds are taken. No other system does this to the extent we do and that is the same reason reguardless of costuming our group on the feild looks like it is a real fight with people in real armor. Other groups do not allow plate knees or elbows and few wear real plate with those groups cause there is no reason to when hardened leather gives you the same hits as plate.

my 2 cents for what it is worth

Cailen

Proponents should make a separate post.
