New Coin Denomination from House Dubh

Post by Lord Dubh » 2013-04-01

The rules on new coins is odd, for a country (group) to introduce a new coin we only need to get the Senate to ok it.

So I am going to ask the Senate to approve a coin to be created by House Dubh with a value of 5 gold. We expect it to be the color WHITE (not silver), but still waiting for the company to let us know if it is possible. We are working on the name of the coin right now and will inform the senate of the name when it is introduced to them.

House Dubh members will turn in our darkon minted coins of equal value to the Coin Marshal since we do not have a country treasury to withdraw from...anything left over will be turned into the coin marshal for use distribution.

Oh. If anyone wants to go in on the purchase let me know. Since all coins are being donated to the club you can write off the value you donate on your taxes next year.

The big shots of Ched Nasad were talking this weekend of doing the same thing, and we were debating the color... I was told that there was a red coin called a merc mark. But looking at your fb pictures I did not see one.
If this exist can someone show me one?

Yeah, there is already an anodized red coin. I don't have one though.

It looks like the red coin on this website - http://www.osbornecoin.com/customcoin_a ... uminum.htm but with the Mordomian logo on it like the Province Piece. The rulebook lists the colors currently in use by a coin denomination as silver, gold, red (23 silver) and black (500 silver) and I want to introduce white as 50 silver.

Coins of the same color SHOULD be the same denomination. I did find you can't make a larger or small coin due to the fact that the DARKON die is 1.125" and can only be used on 1.125" blanks.

One thing we considered was using the same color (gold) and printing a 5 on it but we wanted something that was EASY to see without having to read it.

Thats pretty cool. I wonder if Elidor would be interested in minting a green coin.

I only suggest a new color for a new denomination.

Turn out WHITE is not available.

Oh is green already used? Ah gotcha, you mean if we had Elidorian Stags worth 25gold or something.

Damn white would have been cool.

Green is available. Just pointing out that for simplicity each color should be a separate denomination... With that said...

I have been speaking with Lanham (Warlord Cort) and Ched Nasad is also looking to produce a coin. As it happens both House Dubh and Ched Nasad want to produce a RED coin. With no Mordomian Merc Marks being around we are going to petition the Senate to change the denomination from 23 silver to 50 silver.

Last year the die cost $195.00 and 1000 would have been $0.74 per coin.

Here is the break down:

1.125" Anodized GOLD aluminum.
1,000 $0.75 each.
2,500 $0.38 each.
5,000 $0.295 each.

coinage proposals will not need cosigners - you will be responsible for getting on the adgenda for the meeting by contacting the magistrate and at the meeting you will need all the exacts reguarding the proposed coin its design/color/size/shape/value and an example (could be a picture) once on the adgenda at the meeting it will be proposed and brought to vote

Just to consolidate information:

We use aluminum coins, which can be anodized to various colors: natural, gold (yellow), red, black, green, blue and purple. (Osborn says they think that can do Copper and Bronze too but how different are they from yellow)

The DARKON die is 1.125" so can only be used on 1.125" blanks.

We have defined the following colors: copper, natural (silver), gold, red and black.

Arguments:

1) Put denomination on the coin: This places further financial burden when groups within the club want to mint coins by having a separate die for each coin denomination. Also means we have to actually LOOK at the coin instead of just the color.

2) Make them differing sizes: Dies can't be used on differing sized blanks, so the club would have to own dies of various sizes. Further people wanting to mint coins for the club would have to make a die for each size, more cost.

3) Use a color not in use or mint coins using existing colors and accept the value: Except that the groups looking to make coins, willing to pay for it all themselves, and donate the results to the club want to use an existing color and give it a value that makes sense and other groups may want to use later. Currently no one is manufacturing coins of the color being requested and there are no coins of desired color in circulation.

This saddens me, when we founded the Forgotten Ones in 2000, all of us wore a merc mark around our necks. That should stay "=23". For history sake! But whatever, I'm not minting anything... carry on. In 5 years Darkon will basically be 8 years old anyway the way we're going.
