bronze weapon cover

Post by Powers » 2013-02-03

When covering the striking surface of a normal weapon, does metallic bronze count as "brown?"

EDIT: This may belong under "Weapons, Armor, Garb, and Other Equipment."

do you mean metallic bronze colored fabric?

if so most likely it would be ok ... but the safest thing would be to bring a sample of what you intend to use to a head weapon marshal to get preapproval before going threw the hard work of making the cover

I feel that as long as you make it look good, and show a good effort this will be allowed. If your one of the guys from Sparta in Pittsburgh, Askaris and Lith can help you out with anything as they have played darkon for a few years. If your new, I applaud your efforts to think outside the box and make an effort to make your gear look good early on.

Bronze MIGHT look too much like some of the "gold" swords we have around, which are prizes and do special things. But as they said, you can try it and see what happens.

Also note that brown denotes a wooden weapon. Not a white sword.

If you'd like a head start on knowing if you can use it or not, easiest thing you could do is take a pic of said fabric and either throw it up on here or pm it to me and I can text the head weapons marshal. :)

Um, nope. Perhaps according to tradition, but not by the rules:

The striking surfaces of all normal weapons must have a cloth cover of black, gray, or brown color.

By the way, a pet peeve of mine (and Zentor's): Arrows are normal weapons. Their covers should also be black, gray, or brown. Not green, purple, etc.

You are correct Sir Kobalos. Javelins are the only missle weapon that should have red cloth.
Javelins should also have blue tape on them to denote them as missle weapons... but that is something I have seen little of and is contested by many; although it is in the rules. (pg 18)

Probably because it's not a huge deal. There is nothing really confusing about it. Also, it's been done for so long they probably just don't know any better.

Why they pass ones that aren't a cover that goes on ANY other weapon is what gets me. I've seen green ones before, and green is not a valid weapon cover color. Only the AoP should be green to prevent confusion.

Just saying, if someone brings me a purple spell ball and says "this is my fireball" I say um, no, no it is not.

At the very least marshalls should say "hey, this cover is not legal, please cover it by NEXT event."

Thank you all for your input.

Yes, my apologies for not specifying.

Sir Tyriel Firebrand wrote:If your one of the guys from Sparta in Pittsburgh, Askaris and Lith can help you out with anything as they have played darkon for a few years.

I'll ask them, good call. I just contacted Libby of Brother's Cross Trading Company in regards to suitable fabric, and she has some scraps I can show to them.

I fought at a rainy camp-out about a year ago and stood beside Lithitimus at the Crown War. Adricus and I recently made the shield in my avatar picture, and I've decided the rest of my kit needs to be brought up to that standard.

I'll post a picture of the sample when I hear back from my seamstress friend.

I don't disagree, but like I said, it all comes down to "confusion".

Is purple confusing? Yes. It's clearly not red.

Is a red tip on an arrow confusing? No, it's still an arrow.

I think that is why people were letting them through.

I have seen bronze metallic fabric that cannot be mistaken for any other color. Frankly, it would look pretty cool.. can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'm still waiting on the fabric samples: this is what happens when one relies on a chain of middle-men instead of running errands himself. I should have bronze fabric well before next Darkon event (probably the next camp-out, if all goes well).

This is encouraging, thank you.
