Precasting Spells for Land Events

I was recently asked "what spells can be precast for Land Events?" to which I responded, "the only things I know you can precast are skin spells, pro capes, enchantments and pouches". Well low and behold, I consulted the all mighty rulebook, as many others claimed they never saw anything regarding it in said book, and found the appropriate response.

It seems any spell earmarked with a #2 can be "pre cast" before any land event (wars, invasions, searches), of course observing Adventure spells cannot be cast except on Land Searches or Invasions of failed Land Searchs.

For your convenience, I have posted the list of spells you CAN precast below:

Barkskin
Enchant Item
Enchant Bow
Magic Stone
Magic Shield
Missile Ward
Neutralize Poison
Pouch
Prayer Touch
Protection from Fire/Ice/Lightning
Spell of Shielding
Steelskin
Stoneskin


Please note Giant Growth, Gaseous Form, and Create Holy Water do NOT appear on this list. That means all you people that show up to fight Skeletons with Blessed Weapons are cheating. Now, once Lay On is called, you can most certainly cast it (50 words reduced if I recall) or you could Prayer Touch it of course, but you would have to apply the holy water during the fight, not before.

I told the same people several times last year that Giant Growth CANNOT BE CAST BEFORE lay-on, and they still continued to do it on land searches.

A good post, but will anybody listen? Who knows...

If they can precast Pouch, I think that implies one could have whatever spell they want in Pouch.

They just couldn't have it otherwise in effect already.

correct. but people were walking onto the land searches with the intention of having several party members giant growthed and gaseous form on themselves.

Yes, one unit was beating giants easily last year because they'd always show up all growthed up.

Some people used 5 or 6 potions right at lay on though. Which is allowed.

True, potions are allowed at lay on.

You just can't have precast stuff that's got a short duration, basically. :D

Nk precast giant growth for a reinvasion of a failed search earlier this year. No one seemed to have a Rulebook so we asked the land marshal if it was allowed. He said yes so we did it.

Not a problem, like I said I wasnt 100% positive so I looked it up :)

Figured if the word spread amongst the Nobles and Elders, we would know for future.

Noted and will be passed on. I was missinformed by an unamed country member of doing what he calls " Giant Jack In thr Box" for land search, ie; growth, then gas, then pop the hood , all pre cast. Not so much it appears,lol

Per ruling of 2014 Magistrate (Amy), GROWTH may be pre cast for Land Searches as it no longer affects PCs. This must pass Senate to be made "official" in the rulebook.

Growth has no duration anymore. Read the latest rules. Lots of changes in the last 2 years.
