Rogue Proposal 2014

I am presenting an abridged version of the Class skills/abilities here, and noting any important information. The full proposal may be seen on the Darkon Official Boards under the Proposal Submissions forum, or on the Darkon Facebook page.

The Rogue
Rogue characters are masters of stealth and disguise. They are limited in their armor, shield, and weapon choices due to their need for stealth and agility.

Rogues may use any weapon except chained yellow weapons, black weapons, and any weapon exceeding 4' in length (Missile weapons are excluded from the 4' restriction). Rogues may garb themselves in any style of costume, from a wizard’s robes to silk and lace, but they must wear a skeleton key on their person as a symbol of their character type. Rogues may wear armor of no greater than AC2, and may use a shield of any shape, so long as it does not have any dimension exceeding 24”.

Rank 1- Looting
Rank 2- Pick Pocket, Disguise
Rank 3- Backstab, Climb Walls
Rank 4- Read Languages, Open Locks
Rank 5- Find/Remove Traps
Rank 6- Interrogation (Torture)
Rank 7- Make Poison (Any type)
Rank 8- Assassinate (Write Writ 1x Day)
Rank 9- Read Magical Language (ability to cast from scrolls)
Rank 10- Guild Master / Master Thief
Rank 15- Detect Disguise, Rogue’s Pouch
Rank 20- Improved Interrogate, 2 x Writ per Adv Day*

Rank 1- Looting
This skill is unchanged from the current Thief Skill of the same name. Rogues must present their skeleton key and say “I am a Rogue, here is my key. Do you have any treasure on your (insert area here).

Rank 2-Pick Pocket and Disguise
These skills are unchanged from the current Thief Skills of the same name.

Rank 3- Climb Walls and Backstab
These skills are unchanged from the current Thief Skills of the same name.

Rank 4- Open Locks and Read Languages
These skills are unchanged from the current Thief Skills of the same name.

Rank 5- Find/Remove Traps
This skill is unchanged from the current Thief Skill of the same name.

6- Interrogate
This skill is almost the same as the current Assassin Skill “Torture”. First we have changed the name to make it a little more “friendly” to any parents of teens looking to play the game. Torture, while harmless to most of us, can look a little intimidating to some soccer mom checking up on Jimmy’s new interest. Secondly, Rogues may torture characters of EQUAL or lesser rank.

Rank 7- Make Poison
This skill is unchanged from the current Thief Skill of the same name.

Rank 8- Assassinate
This skill is very similar to the current Assassin Skill with 2 changes:

First we are looking to modify the duration of assassinations. This was discussed at Senate when the proposal was originally written. Currently, assassinated characters are lost for 24 hours. Many players come to events with the goal to play 1 particular character, sometimes only bringing the gear for said character to fight/adventure. Such a long duration ruins this person’s fun, and in the end, this game should be about having fun.
We recognized the strategical value in eliminating a player via assassinate, and as to not nerf the assassin ability too much, we have included 3 possible replacements. Senate will be asked to vote for which should be used. The choices are as follows:
Any assassinated character may not return to play for 2 hours unless resurrected through magical means. (Line item veto)
Any assassinated character may not return to play for 4 hours unless resurrected through magical means. (Line item veto)
Any assassinated character may not return to play for 6 hours unless resurrected through magical means. (Line item veto)
The second change to assassination is the addition of allowing assassinated players to play ANY rank 1 class instead of limiting to a rank 1 fighter, assuming they have no other classes/personas to play. This allows for individuals who brought no armor and specific gear to play the class of their choice, albeit a level 1 version.

Rank 9- Read Magical Languages
This skill is unchanged from the current Thief Skill of the same name.

Rank 10- Master Thief/ Guild Master
Master Thief is the same as the current Thief Skill. It allows a Rogue to search an entire body at once with his/her “Looting” skill.

Guild Master is the same as the current Assassin Skill of the same name with 1 line item veto included:

Guild Masters of the Realm must check in as their Guild Master character at least once every 4 months, in order to keep the Guild. Failure to do so will result in the Guild going defunct, much like a Country that fails to field, and an event will be held to choose a new Guild Master sponsored by the Magistrate and Event Marshall. (Line item Veto)

Rank 15- Detect Disguise/Rogue’s Pouch
These skills are unchanged from the current Thief Skills with the exception that Rogue’s Pouch is a different name than Thief’s Pouch

Rank 20- Improved Interrogation/ Second Assassination Writ
At 20th rank, the Rogue may also produce a second Writ of Assassination per adventure day. All requirements from the level 8 ability still apply. (Line item Veto)

Finally, at 20th Rank, the level requirement for Interrogate is removed, and you can interrogate any person, regardless of level.

If passed, starting Jan 1st 2015, players may do a 1 time transfer of all Thief and Assassin class credits to the new “Rogue” Class, or to another class of their choice. Additionally, if the player prefers, he or she can create several Rogue characters with their credits.

For example, Jimmy has 31 credits in Assassin, and 60 credits in Thief. He can create 1 Rogue character with 91 credits, or create a Rogue with 60 credits, and a Rogue with 31 credits. Or if he finds he does not like the new class for some reason, he may transfer all credits into creating a Mage character.

Again this is a 1 time transfer, and must be made the first time he checks in after Jan 1.
