Nov 1st - Warrior Mage Proposal

Warrior Mages are characters that have divided their time between martial pursuits and the study of the arcane. They are not permitted to use a shield of any kind, but they may use any weapon. They may wear armor of no greater than AC 3. All spells are as the Mage versions.

They may wear armor of no greater than AC 2.

At 7th rank, they gain the skill of 'First Aid', exactly as described for Fighters. They may also cast ‘Stoneskin’, which layers with any armor worn.

At 1st rank, they may cast the spells 'Feign Death' and 'Detect Magic', as well as the adventure-only spell Light', and may use items usable by Mages (this includes Mage scrolls).

At 2nd rank, they may cast 'Mending', and the adventure-only spell 'Comprehend Languages'.

At 3rd rank, they may cast 'Truthspeak', and the adventure-only spell 'Detect Traps'.

At 4th rank, they may cast 'Hold Portal.'

At 5th rank, they may cast 'Release Portal' and 'Magic Shield.'

At 6th rank, they may cast 'Dispel Magic.'

At 7th rank, they gain the skill of 'First Aid', exactly as described for Fighters. They may also cast ‘Stoneskin’ (which they cannot use with armor).

At 8th rank, they may cast 'Charge Item’ and the adventure-only spells ‘Growth’ and ‘Legend Lore’.

Also at 8th rank, they may exceed the 18” restriction of ‘Magic Shield’, using a shield of up to 24” in size.

At 9th rank, they may cast 'Magic Missile'.

At 10th rank, they may brew potions or scribe scrolls (see Chapter Seven: Special Items), choosing from both the Mage and Warrior Mage lists. If a spell appears on both (e.g. Magic Shield), use the higher rank when determining potion/scroll points expended.

Also at 10th rank, the Warrior Mage gains the ability to merge their arcane knowledge and their skill with weapons, gaining the 'True Strike' ability.

At the beginning of each event, a Warrior Mage may select a single melee weapon to which he or she will attune. The weapon will only function as a normal weapon for anyone other than that Warrior Mage. The weapon’s striking surface should be covered in gold cloth. Alternately, the weapon may be marked with a strip of gold metallic tape (above the handle or on the shaft).

In her hands, it will function as a Magic weapon (see the Mage spell Create/Destroy Magic Weapon). Also, while wielded or carried by that Warrior Mage, it is considered indestructible, and is not rendered useless by spells or other effects.

Additionally, if an NPC has a vulnerability to a certain damage or type of attack (cold, Holy, silver, fire, etc.) True Strike is considered to do damage of that type.
When using this ability, the Warrior Mage should call "True" and then the weapon color.

At 15th rank, they may cast ‘Burning Blade’.

Also at 15th rank, they may use True Strike on missile weapons as well. Bows and crossbows so affected transfer the effect to their ammunition when fired.

Burning Blade 3
Mage – Rank 10, Warrior Mage – Rank 15
Length 500 syllables
Duration 24 hours
Range Touch
Area of Effect One magic bladed weapon
Energy Cost 1 spell point
Material Component Red ribbon

This spell may only be cast upon a bladed melee weapon (White or Black) which is already magic. The striking surface is wreathed in flames for the duration, and the weapon now does magical fire damage. Also, for role-playing purposes, it has the same effects on the environment as a torch. When the spell is cast, the player must tie a red ribbon on the weapon in a visible manner (above the handle or on the shaft).

The caster may only have one weapon at a time enchanted by this spell.

One time before the duration ends, the weapon can be used to burn and destroy a foe's wooden weapon with a fiery chop. The player should shout, "Burning Blade! Weapon destroyed!" when making the swing. Only weapons vulnerable to Warp Wood may be destroyed in this way. Doing this ends the spell.

There are a ton of changes here.
Most of them seem very reasonable and I can get behind.(And I know Gor would love the AC3)

What niche do you see Burning Blade filling? Destroying a singular annoying burning blade?

It would be twofold:

1.) For a blade (probably often a great sword) to take out a support weapon like a glaive or spear.

2.) For RP purposes: We've never really had a flaming sword ala a D&D "Flame Tongue", but it could end up being used for such things clearing cobwebs in a dungeon, making sure trolls don't regenerate, setting fire to combustibles, frightening off wild beasts--basically anything thematically appropriate.
