Fairly straight forward. The mage could stand to be more fun to play at level one, and since we're talking about opening up lv1 characters of any class to victims of assassination that don't have another kit, this would be helpful.
Simply make The spells Magic Shield, and Magic Missile into level one spells.
Now any level one mage can use some items in the mage kit, and maintain a shield and throw an offensive weapon indefinitely without fear of running out of spell points.

Cosign. It's goofy to make them wait a level for a shield. For new players starting as a mage, it's not that big of a deal, but for current players, starting a mage means learning to fight as a mage one way, then switching after 5 credits. Goofy.
