<\/a><\/p>\nAs the massive oak doors of Odin\u2019s own hall in Valhalla swung open under the strength of a dozen Einherjar, he tossed a log into the giant hearth and turned to meet his guest. The honored dead moved aside and were somewhat surprised to see Thrym, king of the giants striding into the hall. Behind him were two other giants, carrying a monstrous throne between them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy don\u2019t you ride in it?\u201d Odin laughed as he climbed the steps to his own more modest throne.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am no soft Roman,\u201d Thrym grumbled in a voice that echoed around the spacious hall. \u201cI find your chairs \u2026 small.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you wish, old friend,\u201d the All Father smiled and sat down with a sigh.<\/p>\n
The accompanying giants sat their master\u2019s throne down across from Odin, on the other side of a large concave table. The table was actually more like a shallow pool, with water rippling across it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe board is set?\u201d Thrym asked as one of the giants handed him a horn of mead.<\/p>\n
Odin turned and regarded Loki and Thor who had just entered from the shadows.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Smuggler?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEager to try again,\u201d Loki nodded.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Dwarf?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAngry, but convinced he can make the magic to escape,\u201d answered Loki.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Forgotten?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHel has granted two the chance to earn the right to dine with us,\u201d Thor reported with a nod.<\/p>\n
\u201cOs\u00e1rr?\u201d Thryn inquired as he drained the horn and handed it back for a refill.
\n\u201cEager to suck the marrow from new bones like -,\u201d Loki smiled gleefully.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe rings?\u201d Odin interrupted. Clearly growing impatient with the formalities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeven magic rings,\u201d Thor said. \u201cOne hidden, one guarded, one in plain sight, one entrapped, one in mens\u2019 hands, one on the move, and one lost.\u201d
\n\u201cAnd who is to play this year?\u201d asked Thrym taking his horn again. \u201cIt is your turn to choose.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have found a realm that will entertain us,\u201d Odin whispered as he waved his hand over the pool. A mist rolled out on his command and began to swirl over the water. As the mists parted, the two looked down into another world.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey call themselves Darkon.\u201d<\/p>\n
